Greetings! I hope everyone is warming up a bit.
I wanted to tell you about some exciting concerts, recordings and teaching that I've been doing lately.
I recently premiered John Yannelli's Electric Guitar Concerto, at Sarah Lawrence College with Martin Goldray conducting the Sarah Lawrence Orchestra.
Other highlights: a tour of California to play a solo recital, and Joan Tower's "Snow Dreams" for Composers Inc in San Fransisco.
Vivaldi Concerto and Boccherini Quintet with the
Manchester Music Festival.
Duo recital with Kaite Landsdale, violin, in Connecticut.
And of course, all the new music shows I play: Music from Japan, Columbia Composers, New York Composers Circle, and many others.
News from my Ensembles (Cygnus, Fireworks, Glass Farm and Poetica Musica):
Cygnus Ensemble recently played 10 premieres by CUNY graduate students at the
CUNY Grad Center in NYC. Cygnus continues its work with composers here and at our residency at Sarah Lawrence College.
Cygnus' new recording, “Gone for Foreign”, for Bridge Records is available at the Bridge Records website, ITunes and Amazon. Upcoming commissions include Pulitzer Prize winner Mario Davidovsky and Harold Meltzer.
Fireworks Ensemble recently paid homage to Frank Zappa in a sold out concert at New York's Miller Theatre. Read the review in the New York Times. See a video clip of the show here. Upcoming shows include Wolfeboro, NH, and two special NYC shows: May 10th at the Tahlia Theatre: Dance Mix, featuring Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, and a premiers show May 25th at the Tenri Cultural Institute.
Glass Farm played a concert at Tenri in March which featured 4 world premieres. Also on the program were pieces by Bruno Maderna and Jacob Ter Veldhuis. Glass Farm will record their first cd in September!
Poetica Musica will perform a concert in June featuring music of the Americas, at our residency at the beautiful Old Westbury Gardens.
Recording News:
The Cygnus Ensemble recently recorded Matthew Greenbaum's "Wild Rose, Lily, Dry Vanilla" with the wonderful soprano
Re'ut Ben-Ze'ev.
The Anderson/Fader guitar duo, the core of the Cygnus Ensemble is almost finished with their debut cd, with pieces by Wuorinen, Rokeach, Dawe, Anderson, Pollock and electric guitar duos by Scott Johnson and David Lang. All the pieces, with the exception of the Rokeach and the Corbett were written for the Anderson/Fader duo. This recording will be released by the Furious Artisans label.
I continue recording with wonderful singers: soprano Courtenay Budd for her new cd of lullabies, and for a forthcoming Christmas album with the soprano Michele Capalbo.
My two solo cds, Another's Fandango , and First Flight are available on CDBaby, Amazon, and Itunes.
Teaching/Outreach:
For the past few months I've been playing a wonderful show for students (and teachers) for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center/Lincoln Center Institute outreach programs. This all Latin American program featured works by Piazzolla arranged by pianist Pablo Zinger. My latest project for the Society is "Guitar Bazaar", a show I created with Marco Granados (flute) and Lauren Skuce (soprano). This show features folk inspired classical music from around the world, with works by Mozart (songs with mandolin), Britten, Piazzolla, Beaser, Bartok, and Brian Couglin.
I continue to teach guitar and coach chamber ensembles at the Manhattan School of Music.
This summer Cygnus Ensemble will give a concert and master class at the
7th New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes. For a list of the incredible faculty assembled for this five day event, click here.
